the 5 @ 5 with JOEY COULTER .::. September 26th: Kentucky Recap / Las Vegas Preview
Last Friday at Kentucky, it was about as close to being an incredible night as it could be for JOEY COULTER. The threatening weather held off, Joey was fastest qualifier and he had one of the strongest trucks on the 1.5 mile oval…until the last segment. A late yellow pushed the his 3.5 second lead to a 2nd place restart, only to get freight-trained by JAMES BUESCHER, PARKER KLIGERMAN and teammate TY DILLON.
“I hate restarting in second spot because you cannot be in front of the leader and the guy behind you always has the advantage it seems like“, said a frustrated 4th place finisher. However, 4th place, leading laps and qualifying on the pole gained much needed points towards the season championship as he flip-flopped into 5th place overall dropping MATT CRAFTON to 6th in the standings.
With only six races to go, Las Vegas is next up this Saturday followed by Talladega next Friday. A few weeks later, the final stint includes runs at Martinsville, Texas, Phoenix and Homestead, all within the last four weeks of 2012. Joey knows strong qualifying is just as important as finishing up front and this week we talked about grabbing as many points as possible “one weekend at a time”…
