***********************************************************************Interesting Fact: The last of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s brick surface was covered with asphalt during the fall of 1961. Approximately 600 of the track’s original 3.2 million paving bricks were used to form a new start-finish line with a “gold” brick, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 500-mile race, placed in the very center of the 36-inch-wide strip. *********************************************************************************

Memorable Quote: “The IRL needs to embark on a diversity program to bring in more American drivers.” Chris Economaki (with tongue-in-cheek)

Race Chaser co-chair Barry Hindman has a location for the November luncheon. He announced at last Saturday’s luncheon that the event on November 17th will be held at Grindstone Charley’s, 5822 Crawfordsville Road where attendees will hear a fantastic presentation by the curator of the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame, Tom Schmeh from Knoxville, IA. He will make a presentation about his beloved museum and will also be bringing with him, historian Larry Ball, Jr. Mr. Ball will give a powerpoint presentation of the Des Moines Speedway board track (1915-1916). Make plans now to attend this rare event. RSVP’s will start as soon as the Winchester luncheon is over (October 27th).
